The Hamilton and District Labour Council unequivocally believes that all women must have the right to make decisions about their bodies and their health, including the right to choose and access a safe, medical abortion.
The HDLC condemns Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff's pledge to "make abortion unthinkable in our lifetime" as an attack on the health, dignity, autonomy, and equality of women.
The HDLC also condemns Premier Doug Ford for his refusal to denounce the position taken by Sam Oosterhoff, or to censure Oosterhoff, Brantford-Brant MPP Will Bouma, or Scarborough Centre MPP Christina Mitas for attending an anti-abortion demonstration as elected government representatives.
It is the position of the HDLC that the views expressed by MPP Sam Oosterhoff have no place in government and are contrary to the constitutional rights of Canadian women.
